BS Business Management

By Michael - Athens, AL on September 7, 2008

I have one more class to graduate with my BS degree at UOP. I had 155 hours of college credit from traditional colleges prior to starting at UOP, an Associates in Accounting and Economics along with a technical degree in Machine Tool Technology. With my work schedule and traveling an online degree was the only way to finish my BS. I would have to say that attending UOP and maintaining a high GPA is more difficult and time consuming than an equivelent class taken at a traditional college. Because of the structure and to a degree one has to teach themselve, I feel the retention of material is much better. Writing a 1500 word paper on a subject is much more difficult and involved than remembering answers for a test. There are students that skate through by dumping on team members and doing the minimum just like at any college. What do you call the person that graduates at the bottom of the class from Harvard Med...Doctor. UOP is a great option for working people like myself to get/finish a degree. I have a co-worker that got his Engineering degree from Purdue and MBA from UT, smart guy with pretty papers on his wall that open doors, but results are what count.

not as easy as non-attendees think

By m thompson - raleigh on August 24, 2008

OK. Online schools get beaten up, but no school is easy. UOP might be a lot of things, but it requires busy working adults to dedicate to a program and successfully complete it. In my experience, that's all employers are really looking for. Who really cares where the degree's from as long as it is accredited. Without such schools, many adults would not have the opportunity to wrap up a degree they worked on earlier in life. I graduated from UOP by attending their brick-and-morter school (not online). I recommend others considering UOP to do the same. It's a better overall experience. And, for what it's worth to the snobs out there, more desirable to employers because of its more traditional format. Another recommendation: get your undergrad from UOP and get a master's at a traditional college. Nobody will care where you got you undergrad from.

UOP is Great!

By Carla Thomas - San Antonio on August 20, 2008

I just started taking courses at UOP and the experience is by far more beneficial to me than my experiences with attending a traditional college. The "team" work that the the person complained about is a very valuable experience. That person must not be very experienced in life because any one who has working experience can tell you that when you work for an employeror or are the employer of others, you are on a team and it is imperative to your career that you not only have strong individual skills but that you also know how to function efficiently with others to accomplish goals. At UOP, every week both a team project and an individual project is due. If you are mature you will pull your own weight and not bring others down because of a negative attitude as the writer that I am referring to clearly exhibits. UOP is for real adults who don't have time to play...we are serious about our careers.

M.B.A.

By Greg - Ivyland, PA on July 26, 2008

The so-called University of Phoenix (UoP) is a joke. People who attend can not get into a "real" school with closed-book exams which you have to study for. Everything is group work and if you don't know your right hand from your left, that is okay ... your team will cover for you so you can get an "A" in the course. UoP graduates more people with graduation honors: Summan Cum Laude, Magna Cum Laude, and Cum Laude than anywhere else. Add 2 + 3 together and you answer 7 and the UoP attitude is "close enough" ... if you had said "5" we would have graduated you Summa Cum Laude. The UoP is just after one thing: Your Money!

Review

By Carolyn Beasley - Laurel on July 25, 2008

The online enviroment was great with University of Phoenix. The staff was not. I only had about a year left to go before I received my Bachelors in Accounting. I discovered after going all that time that I needed to come up with $2,000.00 for my last year. When I swapped schools to one that was more affordable the staff at University of Phoenix refused to give me the paperwork I needed to get into this school. After many threats of getting a lawyer and being told by people not associated with this school that they had to give that to me, I finally got the documents I needed to get in somewhere else. However the credits at this school some of my 91 credits would not transfer in. And I also found out that the accounting degree was for business management instead of accounting.

Associates Obtained, Earning Bachelors.

By Waylon Norman - Richland Center, WI on June 2, 2008

If it was not for UOP, I would not be able to attend school. UOP made it easy for me to go to school and allow me to work. UOP is expensive but the education and achievement is worth it.

I qualified for the Next Level Grant ($2500) in addition with my federal financial aid. This is nice, but it only allowed me to take 29 days off before starting my Bachelors Program in Business Management otherwise I would loose the Grant.

Some people ask me if it is easier or harder than a regular college? My answer is I find it harder sometimes. We have an exceptional amount of reading and coursework to complete each week.

My only fear is that businesses will not accept my education because it is an online school. My answer to them is, well they have physical campuses in every state; but my situation needed freedom in learning. That, and with UOP highly recognized now through great marketing, I believe I will succeed. My advise to future students, is do what is write for your situation.

Associate of Arts in Communications

By Clark - Atlanta, GA on May 2, 2008

I had a good experience earning a degree from University of Phoenix Online. Working full time the availability of flexible scheduling, continuous enrollment, online classes, online library, ebooks and computer simulations allowed me to achieve my goals at my pace.

I was able to communicate with fellow students and faculty in real time using online chat features and virtual classrooms. I would rate University of Phoenix as the best in the business. My new degree has provided me with the skill set and the confidence to achieve my career goals.

MBA in Technology Management

By Debra L. - Oakland, CA on April 30, 2008

This is the best way to get a degree. It was intense and I learned a lot since I was "in school" when I was ready to "go to school". Each course was completed in 6 weeks. You only take 1 class at a time.

I took classes ranging from Accounting, Law, and many technology classes. You have to cover a lot of information in a short amount of time. Papers were due each week in collaboration with other classmates. There were also individual assignments that were due each week. You were responsible for reading the material in a timely manner.

The only learning tools that were needed were a computer, some Microsoft Office Software (Word, Excel), Adobe. An internet connection and the desire to learn. Occasionally you had to buy a textbook, but most texts were online. Most of the work was done in teams, so classmate interaction was important. Sometimes you had to pick up the slack for other teammates, but that was not often. The professor interactions were usually very good.

Assignments were always relevant. I would never take a land class again. Online college is so convenient. I was raising a family and working full time when I got my degree. I recommend online college learning all the time. It didn't prepare me for a new career, but it gave me a more advanced education in my current field.

Degree in Business Administration

By Trevor - Chicago, Illinois on April 14, 2008

Overall, the University of Phoenix experience was a good one. The coursework was rigorous and challenging, but it made for a positive learning experience as a whole. The online tools were helpful in completing assignments and projects, as well as communicating with teachers and students when necessary. The overall experience proved that it is possible to receive a good education through an online degree program.

Horrible financial aid.

By Jennifer S. - San Diego on March 11, 2008

I would consider checking around. The University of Phoenix is very expensive and during my undergrad courses with one year left, I was told that I maxed out on my financial aid and I had to come up with 2,000 in three weeks so that I could pay for my next class by myself. I wasn't given any time to prepare for the financial burdon of this and I didn't even know you could max out. I don't feel this part of the school is concerned with the students, just getting new business. So, here I am searching for a new school that is less expensive so I can finish my degree plan.

Associates in Business

By Morgan - Philadelphia on March 10, 2008

I went to the University of Phoenix to get an associates in Business. I took the accelerated courses, which meant five weeks for each course. The assignments were fairly easy, but there was much reading and writing that I had to do for each class. I had to make sure that I logged into the classes everyday! The class was comprised of instructor's instruction, individual coursework, and group projects.

I had good classmate interactions, but sometimes professors did not provide feedback in a prompt manner. I communicated with professors and classmates through forums and e-mail. We were able to upload our documents onto the forums. The textbooks and journal articles were easily accessible through the University's website. When the course was over, though, the online textbook was no longer accessible. Students were also able to receive assistance through a tool that proofread student's papers and provided instant feedback. Since I am a working professional, I would attend University of Phoenix again.
