So Far Very Very Good.

I have just started my 5th class with Ashford. For those who have complained about the price, I would love to know what schools they have looked at. They assisted me with getting the financial aid I needed. I am not thrilled with having little choice on my books, but the prices are no worse than I paid at the campus bookstore in Jr. College. I have found all of my teachers to be competent, and the courses well designed. This is a school for people who like to write, which was my reason for chosing Ashford. Other On-line schools required going to test sites, or hiring an approved person to do it. Ashford asks you to prove understanding by writing papers at the end of each course. I received credit for every single class I took previously and the courses that I had completed by CLEP. I have received prompt response on every inquiry. Just Remember that online course are for the mature and self-motivated. Only sign up for classes on-line if you are ready to take responsibility for your education!

Ashford is hands down the best school i have ever attended, the coursework is challenging, my advisor is very helpful and I can see the support that they said i would recieve. This is my 3rd online school and also the best and last one i will be attending. My advisor was extremely informative, and answers all of my calls unlike some others it sounds like! Would recommend it to anybody looking for a high qaulity education, at times it can be a little tough but I'm doing well so far! 6 classes left yay!!!

I'm in my last week of classes at Ashford. What a lifesaver this has been. Although I can't speak for everyone else, here's my experience: My advisor: Returns calls within 24 hours and usually even sooner. Has called and emailed me routinely to make sure that I'm on track, doing well and don't have any problems or questions. Financial Aid: Although a bit screwy, what school's FA department isn't a bit screwy? My FA advisor clearly states that he will return your call within 48 hours and he always has. He responds to emails and voice mails and yes, even picks up now and then. He's been very helpful Professors: Hit and miss just like every school. 90% have been absolutely great and help with whatever you need. Bottom line: A real school with a real campus and real coursework. If you don't like independent study, then this is not for you.

I am currently in my third course at Ashford and my experience has been pretty positive for the most part. I transferred to Ashford from a local, well known university and have found this work to be more challenging than the work from my brick and mortar school. All of my instructors have been very helpful so far, with the exception of my first writing consultant. I sent her four different emails regarding my paper and have yet to hear back from her, the class was in May, this is now September. I have also found the financial aid department to not be as knowledgeable as they probably should be. I\'ve spoken to a few people who seemed to know what they were doing but for the most part they don\'t, but my finances are covered so I\'ll just deal with it. For those complaining about books not being included in tuition, I\'ve never known of any reputable school who has included their books in the tuition fee.

this school has poor communication. they should include books in tuition because no one wants to read online all day or keep printing everything out. just because people want to go to college online doesn't mean to make everything online, it gets boring and its not every encouraging. their financial aid department is slow and doesn't get back to you on time. i don't care what anyone thinks, even if they think this school is awesome because its not but everyone has their own opinion. i would just tell anyone i know wanting to go here what i have experienced. i was very nice to these people to, only to get the opposite in return.

I've recently enrolled at Ashford (my first class begins on September 9th). My counselor has been extremely helpful. So, at this point I am taking everything said here into consideration. I really want to complete my BA so that I can teach. And Ashford, so far, has proven to be the best fit.
Ashford UniversityAshford is the Worst!

I went to traditionally colleges, and after having two children decided to finish my degree online, well I made the mistake of choosing the first college and attending Ashford! Although I am doing very well, I have a 3.67 GPA and made Deans List, and I am in my 6th course, I absolutly hate Ashford. The financial Aid depatrment is not only useless they lie! Also, before you enroll just know that if you choose to transfer you will be responsible for the entire year, even for classes paid for by financail aid and completed, at most schools you can transfer after each semester, not at Ashford, you have to stay the entire year. Oh and the best part, my transfer credits only counted for electives not for my major, because they had different titles! The course description was the same, but that doesn't matter to them. They are HORRIBLE, PLEASE SAVE YOURSELF AND DO NOT ATTEND ASHFORD, oh and they periodically, without notice raise tuition, and now that I am doing more research they are actually one of the most expensive online universities!

I at first was very interested in Ashford because of their cost. But the advisor was very pushy. He said that I needed to make a decision right then or in the next two days and that the only time i could start would be in just 3 weeks. I was not ready to do so and he said that i would miss out. He also said that i may not even get accepted, that they needed to accept me, not me accept them. Not good salesmanship if you ask me....very pushy. A big turn off for me....also the tech fee for each class was a HUGE turnoff...

I am currently taking my third class with Ashford. My enrollment advisor [name redacted] is the Best! He is so helpful and has been patient. I received my associate's from a well known online school and I have attened campus school in the past. I love Ashford the most of them all. My only problem is finance counselor never calls me back, but my finances are handled. I would just like for her to call me to answer small questions I have. The work is challenging and worth while. A lot more writing is required than from traditional schools.

I am in my last class with Ashford. I've been enrolled since August of 2006. Ashford is great. I have had no problems with customer service like others have mentioned. I've learned a lot. I do wish they would make the ISBN number of books available so I can find a cheaper source than the book store.

Ashford UniversityFinishing my Degree with Ashford
By Christina D - NY on July 16, 2008
I had been looking into finishing my degree with a few different Universities but when it came down to it, all of the schools offered such great things. the only difference maker was my Advisor [NAME REDACTED]. if it was not for Ryan's personal approach to help me make the best decision for me i would still be looking for a college. [NAME REDACTED] was the only person who encouraged me to speak with other schools because he wanted me to find the best place for me. i never expected someone from a school to advise me to make sure that this was the best place for me by really doing my research and talking to other schools. this is the best experience i could have ever hoped for. Thank you [NAME REDACTED] and thank you Ashford. If you are thinking of attending a school online then this is the place for you...

To all of you who are complaining about books not being included-wakeup! If you went to a traditional on-campus college, you would have to pay for your books out-of-pocket at that bookstore. There are A LOT of scam schools out there that include the books in your tuition and send them to you or let you "pick" them out. Those books will not be bought by any bookstore, not even Amazon. I have bought more expensive text books than what AU charges and their prices aren't even that bad. At least with AU, it is only 1 course you are buying for instead of 3-4, like with most schools(online or traditional). Why didn't you use the refund money to buy the book/books needed? That is what the refund is for-buying school supplies.

I have been enrolled at Ashford for a year now. The books are very expensive. Financial aid department is no help. Email and calls are never answered. I was attracted with taking classes every five weeks. I did not realize the books would be so expensive. Yes, there is a lot of writing involved but the overall format of classes has been great. I am looking for a university that has books included in the overall tuition.
Ashford Universityfinancial aid
By Donna P - Keyesport on June 13, 2008
I'm having a hard time with getting financial aid for this school. I've had numerous financial aid institutions say they won't work with Ashford or that they used to but quit. Plus I found other sources that I could get aid from and Ashford refused to accept them saying they didn't work with them.
When I asked for a list that they did work with, they couldn't give me one. I was just supposed to call in and check before I fill out an application. It makes me wonder what's going on. The tuition doesn't include any books so that's a hefty out of pocket expense. Plus they slap you with a $990.00 one time tech fee. I'm looking for another school to transfer to.

Ashford's curriculum is up to par with other universities on-campus programs. The difference is, when attending college on campus, you don't have to write so many academic research papers. Being forced to write this many papers actually makes you apply yourself. I can appreciate the challenge Ashord has brought into my life, but it was totally unexpected.
I'm in my fifth course, trying to keep up with the pace and every other week, major writing assignments are due. I was a day late in one of my courses and my professor deducted 30 points. In my previous courses, they only took off 10 points for each day late.
Overall, this has been a great learning experience and I'm more than happy with Ashford University. Please note: Unless you are truly passionate about pursuing a degree, no college will ever work out for you. If you are serious, any college you choose will back you up.
Most people who have bad experiences, bring it on themselves- by not being sincere and passionate about their goals. Obama visited Ashford earlier this year because he knew it was a good college to speak to. I'm extremely proud that I'm an Ashford University Saint!
Ashford UniversityAshford MBA
By Gary T - Atlanta, GA on June 3, 2008
I completed the online MBA program in October, 2007 and found the experience overwhelmingly positive.
If I had any criticism of the program, it would be that the grading was not tough enough. Otherwise, the volume and content of the material covered was challenging enough and several of the instructors, most notably Father Dave, were outstanding.
I rejected most of the MBA programs I considered because of their emphasis on "collaborative learning" or team based assignments and grading. I believe that such programs tend to attract and breed freeloaders and I was determined to avoid this. I chose Ashford because their classes were all based on individual performance and I believe I made the right choice.

By Nikki - PA on May 11, 2008
I have been a student with Ashford for a few months now. I have lost interest in the university and have started my search for a new one. I am lucky to get a resonse to e-mails and when I do, my questions are never answered. The books we order are not covered under financial aid, we must purchase them on our own, and they do not correlate with the courses that we take. My experience with Ashford is not positive. Many students in my current class have left the university for the same or similar reason.

I enrolled in Ashford University's online Master's of Arts in Teaching and Learning with Technology program last July. This distance learning format has been great for me to work around. The teachers are excellent and the counseling support is very good. I would definitely recommend Ashford University to anyone looking for a distance learning program.

I was really scared about going back to college. My counselor was soooooo helpful, he was such an inspiration, he answered all my questions and guided me along the process. Classes can be a little bit tough at times but I am just now getting through my first month. I feel like for the first time in my life I will be able accomplish a degree.

I will be graduating from Ashford next month. I have attended 4 different colleges/universities over the 20 year span to get to my degree (I got sidetracked along the way raising a family ect...). I have done a community college, private university and a very large well known online program. I can say that I have been very happy with my experience at Ashford. I have had very good support and have found the setting perfect for my busy lifestyle.

I am a former vocational educator forced to stop teaching due to disability. I needed a reputable online program to re-train for other work. I enrolled at Ashford and was ready to begin classes. I got poor customer service and student support from my "Admission Counselor"and withdrew less than 1 month after I enrolled.

I recently got a BS degree from Ashford University Online. The overall experience was very good. My teachers were knowledgeable and helpful. The coursework was tough but fair and was easy to fit into my busy lifestyle. Using a web browser and email to get a degree was incredibly simple! My classmates all felt the same way.
